Ask Me...

What grade do you teach?
Well, that has changed every year on me.  I have taught in 5 different schools in my district.  I have taught 5th grade math, 1st and 2nd grade, kindergarten, 4K (4 year old kindergarten), and K-Ready Summer School.  I currently teach 4K and would like to stay there, but I'm still pretty young seniority wise and am currently surplused from my building, so we will see where I end up next year. *Fingers crossed*

What are your favorite teaching supplies/brands?
Where do you find your teaching supplies?
  • Amazon (hands down my favorite website to buy from and I love that I get free shipping for being a student again!)
  • Scholastic Book Clubs
  • Lakeshore Learning I love everything in this store!  Thankfully I don't live by one of their stores otherwise I think I would go broke...
  • Really Good Stuff - when I taught older grades I loved RGS, but not so much for teaching 4K
  • Dollar Tree - I love Dollar Tree!  Did you know you can order online from Dollar Tree?!  Keep checking for my Dollar Makes Me Holler posts coming soon!
  • Target Dollar Section
  • Craft Stores - Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics- don't forget to sign up for coupons via email and your phone!  I only shop at these stores when I have a 40 or 50% off coupon.  Also JoAnn's and Michaels lets you use your teacher discount in addition to the coupons!
  • Resale shops and garage sales - most of the toys, games, and books in my classroom have come from either resale shops or garage sales.  You have to go back often and it's so hit or miss, but I love the hunt for a good bargain :)
  • And very rarely the local teacher's store, but I think they are way too expensive and not friendly, plus I walk out with way more than I needed and always leave feeling ripped off...
What curriculum do you use?

Well my school district is currently using the Creative Curriculum and the Gold Assessment (paper based) for 4K.  I like the curriculum, but I don't love the Gold.  It's really hard to keep up on the Gold when you have 30 students and counting.  This is our first year using this curriculum and assessment, so hopefully if I get to stay in 4K I will learn to love it or at least like it...
